The 17 Port & Maritime Regiment RLC is a specialized unit within the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC), based at McMullen Barracks in Marchwood, near Southampton. As the British Army’s sole provider of specialist port and maritime capabilities, the regiment plays a vital role in global military logistics. Its personnel are experts in facilitating the movement of military supplies, vehicles, and equipment through seaports, ensuring that the UK Armed Forces maintain a logistical advantage during operations worldwide.
One of the regiment’s core functions is providing support for amphibious and maritime logistics. This includes the operation of port facilities, the loading and unloading of ships, and the deployment of military vehicles and equipment to conflict zones, disaster areas, or military exercises. The regiment regularly deploys around the world, supporting a wide range of missions, from peacekeeping and humanitarian aid to full-scale military operations. Its unique skill set enables it to operate in both established and austere environments, where infrastructure may be damaged or non-existent.
