''Suddenly I realised I was in the hands of a master comedian'' - The Guardian
Brendan Burke’s journey from a career in microbiology and a life of luxury in the Middle East to becoming one of Ireland’s most distinguished stand-up comedians is a testament to his bold pursuit of passion. His transition from the laboratory to the stage has not only earned him accolades but also established him as a household name in Ireland, with his sights set on conquering the UK comedy scene.
A familiar face on Irish television, Brendan’s wit and charm have endeared him to audiences, while his insightful commentary on everything from the drinking habits of his fellow countrymen to current affairs ensures his popularity continues to soar.
Making his mark on the Edinburgh Festival stage, Brendan debuted in 2001 with the ‘Best of Irish’ show at The Stand, followed by his solo venture ‘One Night In Baghdad’ the next year. Now, he gears up for his second full-length show, simply titled ‘Brendan Burke’, poised to captivate audiences at this year’s Festival.
After three years supporting renowned figures like Patrick Kielty, Brendan O’Carroll, and Pat Shortt, Brendan has emerged as a headliner in his own right, drawing crowds to theatres and arts centers across the country. Along the way, he has cultivated a devoted fan base, drawn to his infectious humor and engaging stage presence.
Brendan’s television appearances, including roles in beloved comedy shows like ‘Father Ted’, ‘Don’t Feed The Gondolas’, ‘The X-It Files’, and ‘Liffy Laughs’, have further solidified his status as a comedic force to be reckoned with. Additionally, his regular column in a national Irish newspaper and appearances in various other programs showcase his versatility as both a writer and performer.
