Unique & Cynical

Mike Gunn

Mike Gunn is an exceptional comedian with a captivating style that leaves audiences in stitches.

Biography

Mike Gunn is a standout comedian with a history as intriguing and entertaining as his comedy itself. With over 15 years of success in the stand-up world, Mike’s journey to the top was marked by a challenging past, including a misspent youth, a 15-year battle with heroin addiction, and a period in a psychiatric unit. Fortunately, those dark times are far behind him now, but they have shaped his deeply cynical outlook and his unconventional path into the world of comedy.

Despite considering himself a self-confessed pessimist and an unlikely candidate for a career in laughter, Mike’s undeniable talent and natural comedic timing have propelled him to great heights. For well over a decade, he has firmly established himself as one of the most sought-after and accomplished comedians on the UK and international circuit. Known for his laconic and lugubrious dark humor, killer punchlines, and masterful delivery, Mike consistently headlines at major clubs in the UK and has taken his comedy to audiences across the globe. From the Middle and Far East to New Zealand and Australia, he has entertained audiences far and wide, including a successful five-week sell-out season at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Additionally, Mike has brought laughter to the troops stationed in the Falkland Islands, showcasing his versatility and widespread appeal.

On the small screen, Mike has made notable appearances on popular shows such as BBC One’s “Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow,” Comedy Central’s “The World Stands-Up” and “The Comedy Store,” Channel 4’s “Celebrity Deal or No Deal” and “The Gas,” ITV’s “Harry Hill’s TV Burp,” Channel 5’s “Live at Jongleurs,” and Sky1’s “Time Gentlemen Please,” a sitcom created by Al Murray. As a writer, he has contributed to esteemed publications like The Guardian, Time Out, The List, The 11 O’clock Show, and Match of The Day Magazine.

At the Edinburgh Festival, Mike has presented two solo shows that showcase his diverse talents. In his debut show, “Good Grief,” he adopted the character of a funeral director, fully embracing his melancholic demeanor to uproarious effect. In a subsequent provocative autobiographical show titled “Uncut,” he fearlessly shared his personal journey as a former drug addict, receiving rave reviews and utilizing the show as an educational resource to raise drug awareness among teenage audiences in theaters and schools across the UK. The Evening Standard recognized the show’s impact, describing it as a “funny, chilling comedy lesson” with wit as sharp as a needle.

As a consummate professional and one of today’s foremost stand-up comedians, Mike continues to be in high demand, both in live performances and as a corporate entertainer. Notably, he supported Lee Mack on tour in 2014, playing to his largest live audiences to date. In 2017, Mike plans to embark on a new solo show tour, further solidifying his reputation as a multifaceted and captivating comedian. Behind the perceived unfriendly and gloomy persona lies a loving, warm, and philanthropic individual who may be a touch misunderstood.
