Unafraid to confront uncomfortable truths...
Andrew Lawrence is a comedic powerhouse whose material may initially seem to stem from a place of self-doubt, but when delivered by this skilled comic, it becomes clear that it’s actually a reflection of his acute understanding of human nature.
After honing his craft at St. Andrews University, Andrew’s comedic journey took flight in 2003 when he emerged as a finalist in the prestigious ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ competition. The following year proved to be a watershed moment as he clinched victory in the BBC New Act of the Year, the Amused Moose Starsearch, and the York Comedy Festival New Act of the Year competitions.
Since 2006, Andrew has been a fixture at the Edinburgh Festival, earning acclaim for shows like ‘How To Butcher Your Loved Ones,’ which garnered him a Best Newcomer nomination, and ‘Social Leprosy For Beginners and Improvers,’ which earned recognition for the main Edinburgh prize.
Unafraid to confront uncomfortable truths, Andrew fearlessly addresses topics like his red hair and distinctive voice, infusing his observations with a blend of discomfort and humor reminiscent of comedy luminary Stewart Lee.
Andrew’s comedic musings delve into the complexities of life, from pondering the unwritten rules of existence to grappling with the dashed dreams of his school days. While he may shy away from small talk at parties and resist requests for his infamous Monster Munch finale, his inventive use of a soufflĂ© is sure to intrigue even the most discerning diners.
Beyond the stage, Andrew has explored other mediums to showcase his talents, earning a Sony Award nomination for his Radio 1 show ‘The Milk Run’ in 2006 and hosting his own series, ‘Andrew Lawrence’s Cultural Radio Odyssey,’ on Radio 2 in 2007. His television credits include appearances on Comedy Central at the Comedy Store and a recurring role as Marco, a Christian builder, in the BBC3 series.
